“I never lied to Timmy,” I said.
Odette leaned closer.
“Then tell him why Callum disappeared after that night.”
I froze.
Callum had vanished from everyone's lives without explanation.
I'd always believed he moved overseas.
“Where did you get these?”
“My husband discovered them before he died.”
Her voice softened.
“He knew Callum.”
My heart pounded.
“Why are you showing me this?”
“Because I believe you know more than you're admitting.”
I stood.
“I don't.”
She grabbed my wrist.
“Then ask Timmy why he never told you what happened to his father.”
I pulled away.
“What does his father have to do with Callum?”
Odette smiled.
“Everything.”
That evening, I confronted Timmy.
He went completely silent.
Then he whispered,
“Callum wasn't my mother's enemy.”
He looked terrified.
“He was mine.”
