AUTHOR'S NOTE
Before you read this, I want you to ask yourself one question—
Have you ever made someone your whole world, only to realise you were never even a small part of theirs?
Maybe you never asked them to choose you over everyone.
Maybe you never wanted all their time.
You only wanted to feel like you mattered.
And sometimes, that is exactly where the pain begins.
Because the hardest thing isn't being left.
It's realizing that you were never someone's priority in the first place.
---
NEVER THEIR PRIORITY
There is a different kind of heartbreak that nobody talks about.
It doesn't come with a goodbye.
It comes quietly.
It comes when you are sitting alone, looking at your phone, waiting for a message from the person you would have replied to within seconds.
And suddenly, you understand.
They were busy.
They had things to do.
They had other people to talk to.
They had their own life.
And you kept making excuses for them because you loved them.
"Maybe they're tired."
"Maybe they're having a bad day."
"Maybe they'll make time tomorrow."
Tomorrow comes.
And you are still waiting.
Then one day, you stop making excuses.
Not because you stopped loving them.
But because you finally became honest with yourself.
You were never their priority.
And God, how much that hurts.
Because you remember all those times when you made space for them even when you had none left for yourself.
You remember answering their messages when you were busy.
Remembering the smallest things they told you.
Checking whether they were okay.
Changing your plans.
Forgiving quickly.
Understanding endlessly.
And you never asked for the same amount back.
You just wanted to feel chosen.
Even once.
But maybe that's what hurts the most.
You weren't asking to be someone's entire world.
You just wanted to know that, somewhere in their world, you mattered.
And when you realize you didn't—
something inside you becomes quiet.
You don't fight.
You don't complain.
You don't even ask, "Why wasn't I important to you?"
Because deep down, you already know the answer.
You simply weren't.
And perhaps the saddest part is that they might never understand how much that realization broke you.
They'll remember the conversations.
You'll remember the silences.
They'll remember the days you were there.
You'll remember every day you wished they would notice you were waiting.
And maybe someday, you'll stop waiting.
Not because you found someone else.
Not because you stopped caring.
But because you finally understood something painful:
Love can make someone your first priority, but it cannot force you to become theirs.
And maybe that's the real tragedy.
You can love someone with everything you have...
and still be someone they can live without.
